Stakeholder Engagement and Reporting  Throughout the project there are and will be many stakeholders of the project. SGN being one of the main stakeholders as they are providing us with the Armadale site. Team 6 being another main stake holder in making the project come to life, As well as the community and council of Armadale.

Importance of Stakeholder engagement

  • SGN made it clear that engaging with stakeholders is very important to them, as it all forms into their business succeeding in what they do.
  • Emphasis on the importance of engaging with employees and maintaining
  • Engaging with governance groups are important to get scrutiny on the work from parties such as Of-Gem who impacts the funds of projects.

 Engagement : Outputs and Reporting

  • Engaging with stakeholders in different ways have different impacts with mentions of methods such as.
  • SGN giving community days to their employees
  • Youth Panels Surveys
  • Interviews
  • Surveys
  • In engaging with the SGN made it clear that there are six stages to engagement known as the “Engagement cycle”
  • Identify
  • Tailor
  • Listen
  • Respond
  • Measure
  • Refine
  • In reporting to individuals and groups there are three factors that are key in doing so
  • Why ? – Clarity on why the project is being conducted and where did the idea come from
  • What ? – a summary of what we are doing and an explanation of the relevant factors in the project
  • Outcome – Demonstrating the outcome/outputs through tangible or non-tangible methods.
  • E.g. In looking at outcomes from SGN Fife H-100 provides evidence of successful hydrogen energy which supports future government policy.

Sustainable communities  Mark Huxham introduced us to the work set out in Gazi by Aces to develop a sustainable community within the village. Throughout his talk there was a strong emphasis on climate change and its effects on environments inhabitants, transcending C02 rates, rising water levels, temperature change and the decrease in surface ice among many other issues. With this being driven by human lifestyle, we explored how natural organisms take in more than half of the c02 pollution that we create. Looking at one example of this was Mangrove trees through how they store C02 in their cores and the quantity of inhabitants they attract sustaining biodiversity in such environments.   This spanned into a discussion about Peat Bogs and planting greenery within our locations along with maintaining what vegetation was already there. With the Armadale site being near peat bogs and ample space to develop greenery, strong purpose was provided for us to enrich biodiversity in suburbia.

The Kelpies Andy Scott the sculptor and architect provided an insight on his prototypes of the kelpies and his first initial drafts of them. Realising it was a project of a massive scale applying methods such as engagement with the council and the community of Falkirk. Andy Scott emphasised the amount of effort that went into creating the kelpies in choosing sustainable material, which is structural steel, in being a durable material. An emphasis was also made on the budget of the project costing a sum of £43 million. This infrastructure is responsible for the reconnecting of the Forth and Clyde Canal to the Forth River via a major new canal extension. Andy Scott goes to show that a piece of derelict land can be transformed into anything.

COP26 Martin Valenti Informed us of the importance of the upcoming event in Glasgow at the end of this year. With this one in a billion opportunity. Martin makes it clear that Scotsman’s used to be the revolution of the world, inventing the TV, The telephone, and the steam train. With COP26 around the corner Martin emphasises the importance of being creative with this climate change project as creatives like us should be empowered in revolutionise the climate through economy efficient ideas which could be implemented and possibly brought too COP26.

Sustainable construction Mila Ducheva Emphasises the importance of sustainable construction for our projects. Show the importance of renewable and recyclable resources and materials. Where there are construction projects, care must be taken to reduce waste and energy consumption where possible and protect the natural environment around the sit

  • In project construction, one of the most eco friendly ways of constructing is using offsite construction. This consists of manufacturing parts of the construct off site and then transport it.
  • The four main systems are:
  • Panelised systems
  • Volumetric systems
  • Sub-assembles and components and hybrid systems
  • Sustainable materials are used throughout industrial and the consumer economy that can be produced in required volumes without reducing the non-renewable materials.
  • Cross laminated timber – provides strength and span like steel and stores more CO2 than timber frame due to mass timber.

Measuring the impact of the proposals

  • With everyone having different proposals and impacts, we need to think what impact would we like to have on the site of Armadale ?
  • When measuring the impact, we need to look at the three levels of impact.
  • Impact on who – SGN, the team, Armadale community, and Napier.
  • Impact on what –The site.
  • Impact where – Armadale.
  • When coming up with the proposal we need to think about the potential negative impacts.
  • How we will measure impact will all depend on our proposal e.g. creating a progress record for the proposal.

Impact of community Health & Fitness Socioecological model

  • The model shows where activity can sit with different frameworks of society. E.g. community organizational , and interpersonal levels.

 Community based physical activity programmes

  • Potential for wider public health
  • Provisions of cycle paths
  • Integration of services
  • Safe places for physical activity
  • Enhanced access to physical activity spaces
  • Walking trails
  • Outside gyms
  •

The environment, green space, and physical activity

  • Local availability of green space is related to improve health, physically, spiritually, and mentally
  • Greener environments are associated with reduced morbidity and mortality.

Physical activity as an enabler for a greener community

  • WHO promote this as it can reduce the carbon emissions of cars.
  • Promoting cycling walking can result in a greener environment
  • ISPAH provide 8 investments that work for physical activity which can be found at : 8 Investments – ISPAH
